Review and Compare Cruiser Bikes

The cruiser bicycle style is recognized by their balloon-tires and heavy duty frames and were America's favorite bikes in the 1930s through the 1950s. Their wide tires and simple mechanics (commonly single speed with coaster brakes) are ideally suited to riding on flat surfaces and sandy beaches. The popularity of riding on the sand with these "Beach Cruisers" allowed the bicycle style to remain popular through the 1970s when road bikes were gaining in popularity.

In the late 70s/early 80s, the durable cruiser frames formed the basis of the newly-developing mountain bike. Today there are a wide variety of cruiser bikes ranging from classically styled bikes that harken back to the early 1900s to stylish bikes that have merged with modern motorcycle designs. The cruiser bikes comfort, style, and affordability (compared to mountain and racing bikes) have led to renewed popularity in recent years.
